LeDuc Terms Checkbox vs CheckMate
I'm Tyler, and I make LeDuc Terms Checkbox. If you're looking at CheckMate Terms and Conditions and wondering about the alternatives, here is how the two compare. I've kept it to what my app actually does and what CheckMate says on its own App Store listing.
Both apps put a terms checkbox in the cart, and both can block checkout until it's agreed. The differences are mostly in price, in which features sit on which plan, and in several things CheckMate does that mine doesn't.
Side by side

Prices and features checked 2026-11-04 from the App Store listing (developer Nerd Labs; rated 4.8 from 30 reviews on that date). Plans change; check their listing for current details. The listing's own wording is not always consistent between plans, so I've only listed what it states.
What CheckMate does that mine doesn't
- An age verification popup with configurable thresholds and session memory. Mine is a checkbox only.
- An analytics dashboard with acceptance rates and CSV/JSON export. Mine has none; proof of consent is on each order.
- Country rules and POS checkboxes on their higher plans. Mine doesn't do either.
- Checkout UI on their Premium plan, which their listing ties to Shopify Plus. My app doesn't add anything to the checkout page beyond the message Shopify shows when it refuses an order.
When mine is the better fit
- You want proof of consent on every order without an upgrade. Each ticked box is saved in the order's Additional details with its version and the time in UTC, on the free plan.
- You want shoppers to agree again when your terms change. Editing a checkbox's text raises its version, and consent to an older version no longer counts.
- You want checkout itself to enforce it. In Block mode, Shopify's checkout refuses the order unless the box was ticked in the cart, including with Buy it now, express buttons and edited carts, and you can hide those buttons.
- You want a simple setup with no customer data kept. One permission (checkout validations), settings in your own store, nothing stored about shoppers.
How to switch
- Write down your current checkbox text and links. Open CheckMate and copy the wording and policy links.
- Recreate it in my app. Paste the text and write links as
[terms of service](/policies/terms-of-service). Choose "Ask in the cart" or "Block checkout without consent". - Turn on the app embed in your theme editor, then open your cart and test: the checkout buttons should stay off until the box is ticked.
- Turn off CheckMate so two checkboxes don't appear in the cart.
