Shopify Scripts replacement apps
I'm Tyler, and I make Shopify apps. Shopify Scripts stopped running on every store on June 30, 2026. If a Ruby script used to enforce a checkout rule for you, that rule is gone until something replaces it. This page maps each kind of Script to its replacement, and lists the use cases my apps cover.
What changed
- April 15, 2026: editing and publishing Shopify Scripts stopped.
- June 30, 2026: all Shopify Scripts stopped running. Shopify's Help Center now says the Script Editor app was retired and scripts no longer run on any store.
The replacement is Shopify Functions: small programs that run inside Shopify's checkout. Stores on any plan can use public App Store apps that contain functions. Only Shopify Plus stores can use custom apps that contain functions, so writing your own is a Plus option.
Which Function replaces which Script
| What the Script did | Shopify Function that replaces it | My app |
|---|---|---|
| Line item scripts: tiered prices, BOGO, bundle and free gift discounts | Discount Functions | None. Shopify's own discounts or a discount app. |
| Shipping scripts: hide, rename or reorder shipping rates | Delivery Customization | None for renaming or reordering. For hiding every rate to stop PO box or restricted addresses, see PO box blocking. |
| Payment scripts: hide or reorder payment methods | Payment Customization | None. |
| Minimum, maximum or multiple quantities | Cart and Checkout Validation | LeDuc Order Limits |
| Blocking PO boxes, APO/FPO, forwarders, ZIP codes or states | Cart and Checkout Validation | LeDuc Address Rules |
| Requiring agreement to terms before an order | Cart and Checkout Validation, plus a cart checkbox | LeDuc Terms Checkbox |
Shopify's Help Center groups the Function use cases the same way: custom discounts, delivery customizations, payment method customizations, and cart and checkout validation rules.
Use cases my apps cover
Minimum and maximum quantities, "sold in multiples of", and whole-order limits, enforced by checkout with LeDuc Order Limits.
Stop orders to PO boxes, APO/FPO addresses, package forwarders, ZIP codes, states and countries with LeDuc Address Rules.
A required terms checkbox with proof of consent on every order, and an optional checkout rule that refuses orders without it, with LeDuc Terms Checkbox.
Why a validation Function is better than the old workaround
A Ruby Script could change prices, reject a discount code, and hide shipping or payment options. It had no way to return an error that stops an order. So checkout rules built on Scripts were indirect: hide every shipping rate and let checkout fail, or rely on the theme's quantity box.
A cart and checkout validation Function returns an error message, and Shopify's checkout won't place the order until the shopper fixes the problem. The message can sit next to the field that broke the rule. Because it runs in checkout and not in the theme, Buy it now, express checkout buttons and edited carts get the same check.
My other Shopify apps
These are not Script replacements, since Scripts never did these jobs, but they are part of the same set:
- LeDuc Product Options: custom fields on product pages, such as engraving text and gift notes.
- LeDuc Size Charts: size guide pop-ups on product pages.
- LeDuc Restock Alerts: back in stock emails.
- LeDuc Sold Out Sorter: moves sold-out products to the bottom of collections.
Status, November 2026: my Shopify apps are in Shopify App Store review and not installable yet. Each app's page will link to its App Store listing once it is approved.
