An "Open in Excel" alternative without the add-in
Azure Boards' Open in Excel needs Excel for Windows and the Azure DevOps Office Integration installed on each computer. Teams on Macs, locked-down laptops or Excel for the web cannot use it.
How Excel Round-Trip compares
- Install: one Marketplace extension for the organization. Nothing on each computer.
- Excel: any version that opens .xlsx: Windows, Mac or the web.
- Hierarchy: Title 1, Title 2, Title 3 columns, like a tree list. Move a row to change its parent.
- Publishing: upload the file, see a field-level diff and validation results, then apply. Nothing is written before Apply.
- Conflicts: each row is checked against changes made in Azure DevOps since the export.
- Undo: every import keeps an undo log.
