Why Canva can't just open the old file
Canva imports PowerPoint, PDF and a few other formats, but not Publisher's .pub files. Uploading a PDF of the bulletin gets the look but often not editable text boxes. Uploading a PowerPoint file gets you a real, editable Canva design.
1. Turn last week's .pub into a PowerPoint file
Pick the most recent bulletin, the one closest to how you want it to keep looking. Drop it into my converter. It turns each Publisher page into a PowerPoint slide the same size, with the text boxes, pictures and colours where they were. You see every page before paying.
2. Import it into Canva
- In Canva, choose Upload (or Import file on the home page) and pick the .pptx.
- Canva opens it as a design, one page per slide, at the bulletin's page size.
- Check the fonts. If Canva doesn't have one of yours, it swaps in another, so look over headings and the masthead and pick the closest Canva font where needed.
3. Make it your weekly template
- Clear out this week's notices but keep the masthead, mass times or meeting times, contact details and boxes.
- Each week, open it and use File > Make a copy, then type the new notices into the copy. The original stays clean.
- If several people help, share the design with them in Canva so everyone works from the same layout.
4. Print or send it
For the printer or the photocopier, use Share > Download > PDF Print. For email or the website, PDF Standard is smaller. Check the page size matches your paper before the first print run.
Years of old bulletins?
You only need one good bulletin to make the template. If you also want older issues, special-occasion booklets or annual reports as editable files, the converter has a $19 pass for as many files as you like, and a bulk option for a whole folder at once.
